Interlude: Radio War Nerd and Wonderland

On Dolan & Ames

I got to meet two of my heroes last night. John Dolan (aka Gary Brecher) and Mark Ames are co-hosts of the superb podcast “Radio War Nerd,” and are in my estimation two of the greatest living journalists.

For context, Mark was Editor-in-Chief of The eXile, which was where Matt Taibbi and Yasha Levine got their start. John, of course, also wrote for The eXile, and is the author of Pleasant Hell (and is to my mind the natural heir to the literary mantle of Hunter S. Thompson). They have forgotten more about international relations and the nature of war than any five CNN correspondents ever knew, and are incredibly nice guys to boot.
